Bandai Namco Doesn’t Want Players to Eat Akuma’s Fireballs in Tekken 7 Fated Retribution
Tekken 7 Fated Retribution is looking pretty promising so far. In addition to visual and gameplay upgrades, Street Fighter’s Akuma will be making a high-profile cameo in the playable cast with an arsenal of fireballs behind him.
Because he’s drastically different than the rest of the Tekken cast, Bandai Namco Entertainment recently put together a quick guide showing players the various ways in which they can deal with Akuma’s projectiles. In general, there are three options: sidestepping, jumping, or countering with character-specific attacks.

Though there have always been non-projectle characters in street fighter and a projectile boss has been in Tekken ...that side step is damning
That said, not only should you be able to side step the fireball ...sidesteps have always been apart of tekken. The question then becomes...
How do we incorporate this mechanic into the Tekken universe in a way that is useful?
Possible answers: (not all of these, simply an arrangement that fits)
- Allow combos into fireballs(looks like that's in there)
- Decent chip damage on block
- Minor tracking - if the opponent is walking sideways the initial throw(not mid air) of the fireball accounts for position. Only way to "dodge" is to actually "step dodge" the fireball not "8 way walk" it.
- Add knock down on fireball hits
- Add recovery frames on fireball block
- Lower recovery time on fireball throw(rush in while opponent is stepping)
